Temple Explanation
Kaigenji Temple belongs to the Chinzei branch of the Jodo sect and was founded in the 3rd year of the Oei era (1396) by the monk Kyūzan of Dairensha. When Lord Nagamasa Kuroda entered the province, the temple was moved from the current Chiyo area in Hakata Ward to its present location. Within the temple grounds, there are an Enma Hall and a Kannon Hall, which were rebuilt in June 2016. Every year on August 16 and January 16, the “Enma Festival” is held.Address10-5 Nakagofukumachi, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture
Lighting Point
A fantastical ‘Forest of Light’ spreading underwater, woven with vivid blue lights and delicate patterns of light. It expresses mystical encounters with the Great King Enma and the Thirty-three Kannon Bodhisattvas through a collaboration of light and sound. Please enjoy the moments spent in the beautiful ‘Forest of Light’ that spreads at Kaigenji, a temple named after the sea.
