Zendoji Temple

Temple ExplanationShendōji of the Chinzei branch of the Jōdo sect was established during the Kenryaku era (1211–1213) by Chinzei Shōkō, who succeeded Hōnen Shōnin, the founder of the Jōdo sect. Originally, it was not called “Shendōji,” but it was referred to as the “Hakata Discussion Hall” because Shōkō held a hundred-day sermon there.

Kōdōji’s Hikari no Mori is a ‘formless forest.’ Even with few trees, you can feel the ‘presence’ of the forest—an arrangement of breathing light and spirits allows you to experience this formless ‘forest.’ We invite you to enjoy this new encounter with the forest.
